Can I use it?

Silverline is safe and suitable for nearly all women, including women who:

  • Are of any age (from 21 and also for women over 40 years old)
  • Have or have not had children
  • Are not married
  • Are of any age, including adolescents and women over 40 years old
  • Women who want to prevent unintended pregnancy for 3 to 5 years
  • As an emergency contraceptive
  • Have just had an abortion or miscarriage (if no evidence of infection)
  • Are breast feeding
  • Do hard physical work

Contraindications

CONTRAINDICATIONS (ABSOLUTE)

Silverline cannot be used in the following conditions:

  1. Malignant diseases of the genital tract
  2. Unexplained Vaginal bleeding suggesting pregnancy or an underlying medical condition
  3. Pregnancy – Women who are pregnant
  4. Past history of ectopic pregnancy or predisposing factors
  5. Infections of the genital tract
  6. Sexually transmitted diseases during the last 12 months (except bacterial vaginitis, repeated herpes infection, Hepatitis B)
  7. Abortion with infection during the last 8 months, pelvic inflammatory disease
  8. Uterine malformations (congenital or acquired) /Uterus abnormality
  9. Allergy to copper
  10. Suspected Endometriosis
  11. Infection of the reproductive organs during the first six weeks after childbirth or after an abortion
  12. Very high individual likelihood of exposure to gonorrhea or Chlamydia
CONTRAINDICATIONS (RELATIVE)
  1. Anemia
  2. Valvular heart disease
  3. Coagulation disorders
  4. Anti-inflammatory treatment
  5. Wilson's disease
  6. Multiple exposures to different sexual partners
  7. Nulliparity

When to Insert: (Timing the Insertion)

You can start using Silverline anytime, when it is certain that you are not pregnant.

  • Most recommended is during bleeding period of the normal menstrual cycle
  • Can also act as emergency contraceptive if inserted up to 72 hours after unprotected sex
  • Can be inserted 15 days after miscarriage
  • Can be inserted up to 12 weeks after caesarean operation (should check this first with local guidance and standard procedures)
  • Can be placed Post placental: within 10 minutes after expulsion of the placenta following a vaginal delivery

If you start Silverline within 12 days after the start of your monthly bleeding, there is no need to use any back up method. If you are currently using any other contraceptive method consistently and correctly, you can switch to Silverline immediately.

Note: IUD insertion between 48 hours and four weeks postpartum is not recommended.

Important Safety Information

Expect changes in bleeding patterns and cramps after IUD placement. These symptoms reduce after several months of usage.

Silverline cannot be used in the following conditions:

Silverline is contraindicated in women with: known or suspected pregnancy, congenital or acquired uterine anomaly, Suspected Endometriosis or infected abortion in the past 3 months; unexplained uterine bleeding; current IUD; acute pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) or history of PID, genital tract infections

PID awareness is essential. IUDs have been associated with an increased risk of PID. PID is often associated with sexually transmitted infections (STIs); Silverline does not protect against STIs, including HIV.
